State-of-the-Art Day Hab Facility Design Build

This project showcases the design-build delivery of a new two-story, 20,000 square foot day habilitation facility in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The client required a space that could accommodate all of their programs and client needs while also providing modern support areas for staff training, organizational meetings, and future growth.

The facility features a bright, naturally lit main entry that creates a welcoming environment for visitors and staff. Accessible drive-up and drop-off entrances were incorporated to ensure smooth access for individuals using wheelchairs and mobility aids. Inside, the design emphasizes open, functional spaces including program rooms, multipurpose areas, and a dedicated teaching kitchen where clients can develop life skills. Toward the rear of the building, a modest recreation area provides space for structured activities and wellness programs.

Throughout the design process, the project team worked carefully to protect the surrounding environment. All nearby wetland buffer zones were preserved and enhanced through a thoughtfully developed landscape plan featuring native tree plantings and sustainable site practices.

Following detailed land surveying and geotechnical studies, several site challenges were addressed through design adaptations that optimized grading, foundation systems, and utility layout. The final building design provides the organization with just the right amount of space to meet current operational needs, along with flexibility to accommodate future expansion.

This facility stands as a reflection of collaboration, innovation, and a deep commitment to accessibility and sustainability in community-based care environments.
